Francisco Reyes Villamizar
Francisco Reyes Villamizar holds an LLB by Universidad Javeriana in Bogotá, a Masters Degree by the University of Miami, a Diploma in Portuguese Culture by the University of Lisbon and a Ph. D. in Law by Tilburg University. Dr. Reyes currently works at the Colombian Superintendence of Companies. He is a well-known domestic and international specialist in Corporate Law. He was the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Legis. He was responsible for the design and implementation of the Colombian act that introduced the joint-stock companies. Dr. Reyes also authored the Model Law on Joint-Stock Companies for the Organization of American States. He is a member of the International Academy of Commercial Law and the Colombian delegation before the United Nationals Commission on International Trade Law. He has authored several books such as “Derecho Societario, Volumen I y II”, Editorial Temis, 2006 (Corporate Law, vols. I and II); “SAS: La Sociedad por Acciones Simplificada”, Legis, 2013 (The Joint-Stock Company); “Derecho Societario en Estados Unidos y la Unión Europea”, Legis, 2013 (Corporate Law in the United States and the European Union); and “Análisis Económico del Derecho Societario”, Legis, 2013 (Economic Analysis of Corporate Law). Dr. Reyes has also published several books and articles in English and Portuguese, among which are the following: “A New Policy Agenda for Latin American Company Law” (Durham, Carolina Academic Press, 2013) and “Direito Societario Americano” (Sao Paulo, Quartier Latin, 2013). He has also been a visiting professor in Louisiana University, Arizona University, Lyon Jean Moulin, Fribourg and Tilburg University.
